Blaqk Sheep
According to the dictionary, a “Black Sheep” is an idiom used to describe an odd or disreputable member of a group, the latter rings true for Hapilos September Producer of the Month, Germaine Clarke also known in the music industry as “Blaqk Sheep”! The name befits him as he proudly aims to not only standout from his counterparts, but also with his approach to music producing by being unafraid to explore different sounds, and seemingly non popular sounds. Born in Bamboo, St.Ann, his journey began like so many destined for this arena. After moving to Kingston as a child and growing up, Sheep absorbed everything to do with music, from a car radio blaring to the sounds of nature that spoke to his senses. From playing on sound system, to his ambition of becoming an artist kicked in, but after spending time in various studios, he became fascinated with the creation and construction of beats, and never looked back. Although he suffered several set backs and even took a year hiatus from the music industry, Sheep went on to perfect his craft on many productions. It is after a studio chance encounter with RDX’s Renigade and being a part of creating the successful Chrome Riddim that Sheep’s name gained recognition. His discography boasts an impressive array of artists from such veterans of the reggae and dancehall industry as Lincoln ‘Sugar’ Minott, Admiral Tibett and Yellowman, to GRAMMY winning Beenie Man, Gyptian, Busy Signal, Vybz Kartel, Alkaline and more. Topping worldwide charts with various projects, his productions include the Silent Sky Riddim, Dinkimini riddim, Kamasutra Riddim, Grass Yard Riddim, Yengeh Riddim, 90’s Bubble Riddim, Swahili Riddim and the smashing RDX hit Ride it and Grab amid many others. He stated, “Since the day that I started to make music, the landscape of the industry has changed so much. Thankfully I educated myself and along with 21st Hapilos Digital that have been more than just a distribution company, I was able to take my music everywhere.” When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he answered, “Even if they don’t remember me, my music will live on, and in those melody my name will live on”. – Blaqk Sheep
