Soaring through all facets of the music industry, meet Hapilos October Producer of the Month; the charismatic Dean Barnett and Junior “Chamba” Stevens known as Silver Birds Records! Connoisseur of steelpan music will recognize the name and associate it to the world-renowned, award wining Silverbirds Steel Orchestra. With an array of talent, visually stimulating costumes, matched with beautifully played instruments enhanced by creative choreography, Silver Birds was voted Jamaica’s top performing band for the year 2009 by the country’s largest radio and television conglomerate, RJR Group. At the 2009 World Championship of Performing Arts, held in Hollywood USA. Musicians from the group gained the distinction of winning five gold medals including “Best Original” and “Best Instrumental”. As the Band’s motto “To the World” rings true to their vision, the latter translated into Dean and Junior venturing into music production. “From playing the hits to creating the hits,” explained Dean. With a repertoire spanning many genre of music – Jazz, R&B, Reggae, Soca, Pop, Gospel, Country, Latino and more, the band’s versatility was the foundation, and the reason why Silver Birds Records boasts such a distinctive signature sound. “Every production that we create has an element of steelpan,” says Junior aka Chamba. It is in 2016 that Silver Birds Records released their first official song serendipitously with 21st Hapilos Digital. “Our first production was actually a very big hit. It was SexSlave performed by dancehall artist Kalado;” recalls Chamba. The following rendered a succession of hits for the new producers who aimed to keep their momentum. From Billboard, gold selling artist Gyptian to controversial dancehall star Tommy Lee Sparta, Silver Birds Records impressive discography are what many producers are seeking throughout their career. When asked if they felt the pressure to follow up with more hits after such an explosive debut for unseasoned producers, Dean affirmed, “No, I can say we really don’t feel that because it’s not a competition for us. If anything we are our own competition and set on our bar. It is an amazing feeling to hear your music on the radio and have people dance to it. It’s like a universal bond, so that’s how we measure our hits.” “Well, that and being named Producer of The Month by Hapilos is a success!” added Chamba. As their music hit the various international charts, Silver Birds Records have established themselves as a bonafide label with “Alive” – Vybz Kartel & Kim Kelly, “Picture” – Gyptian & Samantha J, “Grim Rave” – Tommy Lee Sparta” among many others.
